Promotional Products: Impact, Exposure and Influence

Note from Brian: This Newsletter primarily focuses on general marketing ideas, and NOT on Selling Promotional Products. This study really amazed me so I thought I could “sneak in” a bit of news about Promotional products. Enjoy!

A survey of 600 business travelers at DFW airport revealed that promotional products produce positive results for advertisers. Their findings may interest you:

Of the 71% that had received a promotional product within the last 12 months, 76.1% could recall the advertiser’s name on the product they had received. 33.7% actually had the promotional product with them!

In comparison, participants were also asked if they had read a newspaper or magazine the past week. 80% said yes, but only 53.5% could recall the name of a single advertiser.

Promotional products enhance opportunity for driving a message far beyond traditional media and are powerful opinion change agents. Results of the study reveal that 52% of participants did business with the advertiser after receiving the product. Another half stated they were more likely to do business with the organization that gave them the item and 52.1% reported their impression was more favorable of the organization since receiving the item.

What does this mean to you?

Promotional Products furnish advertisers with advantages that may not be available in other media. These include:

  • High Recall – where the name of the advertiser is remembered
  • Frequent and Repeated Exposure – to the advertising message because of the length of time the item is kept. 73% reported using the promotional item at least once a week. 45.2% reported using it at least once a day.
  • A more favorable impression of the advertiser, resulting in a propensity to do business with the organization giving the item.

Savvy advertiser’s look for media with reach, recall and low cost per impression – promotional products measure up!
